What a day

I got back from the Khao Kheow open zoo a few hours ago and I’ve been processing the images ever since. I took a lot of pictures. I filled up my 3 gb worth of cards, trimmed out the lesser photos, filled them again, trimmed again, and filled one last time. The [...]

I got my stuff

Between June 1st and June 15th I had two weeks to sell nearly everything I owned, pack everything else into boxes, and move.
I had known that I would probably be moving to Thailand for a month or so, but I didn’t really believe it.
It wasn’t until I went to Thailand on an exploratory make sure [...]

I’ve started a map

Google has a maps function where you can design your own map and label it as you like. I’ve started one that has my favorite places to go, where I work, what my commute is, and all that fun stuff.
I’m not going to just post the link online though. Instead, I will go ahead [...]

Power

Everytime a new thunderstorm hits, I swear it’s the most intense atmospheric event I’ve ever experienced. It hits that threshold.
Upon reflection, it’s not. The Jelly Belly storm from a few weeks ago was definitely more intense, but I got pictures of this one.

Well, I got a lot of pictures like that. Storm [...]

Commute Part 2

On the other side of Sukhumvit there is a small town that I would guess is primarily there to support Pattaya and Jomtien.
It is easily the most challenging part of my commute, since it consists of a 2 lane road loaded with potholes and has many different vehicles going each way including big trucks, pickups, [...]

Commute part 1

For the first time since I got here, I went on a little hike just to take photos. I plan to eventually photograph my entire commute to work, since I can’t imagine a better way to get the feel for where I am.
Naturally, I started with the first kilometer or so. I planned [...]

Crazy things I’ve seen #1

With fair regularity, something will happen, I will see a sign, or something will drive past me that makes me wonder if I really saw what I just saw.
Usually It takes two or three glances to confirm that, yes, that is indeed what that is.
For instance, I once saw a pickup truck drive by with [...]

Feeling a bit better

Yesterday was awkward. I slept a lot so my body had a lot of energy, but I was really tired. I was in the very strange position of wanting to go to sleep and run a marathon at the same time. I ended up walking in circles around my apartment until I [...]

And thus ends my windsurfing career

Here, anyway. I managed to get myself an ear infection in both ears and a wonderful case of traveler’s diarrhea and vomiting.
I took a quick trip down to a nearby hospital and they took good care of me. I’ll be fine, but ugh.

I could go wherever I wanted, powered by the wind

So long as where I wanted wasn’t back to shore.
After four or five frustrating starts where I just ended up riding the waves horizontally back onto the beach, I finally figured out how to properly catch the wind and go where I wanted.
While windsurfing you steer by moving the mast towards or away from the [...]
